BSA update

Much more to come on the BSA decision, I am trying to keep up with the interviews and correspondence.

I am hugely grateful for the support received from the scientific community.

One point worth noting is that

Statement that Dr Holt had surveyed “chiropractors in this country” and two-thirds said they would treat asthma and ear infections

was said to be misleading by the BSA, as I did not have time to say that it was a small sample, and consistent with large surveys of chiropractors in other countries. 90% of American chiropractors, and 78% of Canadian chiropractors, thought that the therapy should not be limited to musculoskeletal conditions. The British General Chiropractic Council had also published a leaflet stating that chiropractic therapy can lead to an improvement in “some types of asthma, headaches, including migraine and infant colic”.

Stuff and nonsense blog sums it up brilliantly...

Obviously, Dr Holt was wrong to suggest that chiropractors claim to treat childhood ear infections and asthma. The New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association website makes it absolutely clear that chiropractic does not treat these conditions by, um, listing them both on their research page and on their page that tells clients what to expect from chiropractic.
