Regular exercise delays onset of dementia in elderly

The Facts:
* Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are common in elderly people and are of major concern in an increasingly aging population.
* 1,700 people aged 65 and over were involved in the American study to see if exercise could delay dementia.
* The results showed fewer cases of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease were seen in people who exercised at least 3 times a week.

Shaun’s comment: This was a very well conducted study, showing yet again that exercise and fitness are hugely important to health. Nobody wants to have problems with memory, language, problem-solving or attention when they are older and these findings strongly suggest that exercising at least three times a week may help to prevent these problems.
