Health Informatics - Privacy and Security

Currently, questions of health information security and medical privacy are of utmost importance in the United States...

By 2014, all entities who use, send, or store health information meet requirements for confidentiality, integrity, availability and accountability based on sound risk management practices, using recognized standards and protocols...

Isu ini juga berkembang di Indonesia..mungkin kepentingannya tdk seberapa dibanding carding, cracking dll..tapi ini menyangkut kerahasiaan data pasien menurut etika kedokteran..yang berarti melibatkan hukum..

Health Informatics - Integration and Interoperability

The benefits of electronic health records, and the appropriate sharing of health information among patients, physicians, and other authorized participants in the healthcare delivery value chain, are nearly universally understood and desired. However, the level of adoption of electronic health record systems in primary care settings remains low...

HIMSS has convened the Integration and Interoperability Steering Committee to guide the industry on allocating resources to develop and implement standards and technology needed to achieve interoperability...

Indonesia nantinya juga memerlukan standar untuk masalah ini..

Information technology in healthcare is on the high-speed express. Standards improve the ability of multiple organizations to work together for the good of improving patient care...

kecepatan perkembangan teknologi kesehatan ini harus diimbangi oleh orang2 kesehatan bidang TI..mulai sekarang..apa yg bisa kita lakukan..

Health Informatics - Electronic Medical Record

The Electronic Medical/Health Record (EMR/EHR) is a longitudinal electronic record of patient health information generated by one or more encounters in any care delivery setting. Included in this information are patient demographics, progress notes, problems, medications, vital signs, past medical history, immunizations, laboratory data and radiology reports. The EHR automates and streamlines the clinician's workflow. The EHR has the ability to generate a complete record of a clinical patient encounter, as well as supporting other care-related activities directly or indirectly via interface - including evidence-based decision support, quality management, and outcomes reporting...

Apakah semua pusat pelayanan kesehatan di Indonesia telah memiliki EMR?
Apakah EMR memang benar2 dibutuhkan saat ini?

Health Informatics - Introduction

Setelah googling dg keywords masing2:

  • health informatics
  • medical informatics
  • public health informatics
maka didpt pengertian..

Health informatics is an evolving scientific discipline that deals with the collection, storage, retrieval, communication and optimal use of health related data, information and knowledge. The discipline utilises the methods and technologies of the information sciences for the purposes of problem solving and decision-making thus assuring quality healthcare in all basic and applied areas of biomedical sciences...

Medical informatics has to do with all aspects of understanding and promoting the effective organization, analysis, management, and use of information in health care. While the field of medical informatics shares the general scope of these interests with some other health care specialties and disciplines, medical informatics has developed its own areas of emphasis and approaches that have set it apart from other disciplines and specialties. For one, a common thread through medical informatics has been the emphasis on technology as an integral tool to help organize, analyze, manage, and use information...

Public Health Informatics may be defined as the systematic application of information technologies and systems to public health practice.
Information technology is playing an increasingly important role in helping public health both manage client information for the delivery of services and assisting in the efficient evaluation of health outcomes and program effectiveness. Public Health Informatics is closely related to Medical Informatics,...

Percentage of Bodyfat?

It is difficult to determine the exact percentage of body fat a person has, but estimates can be made in a number of ways.

First, using a tweezer-like tool called a caliper, you can measure the thickness of skin folds on different points of your body and compare the results with standardized numbers. You can also use a small device that sends a harmless electrical current through your body and measures your body fat percentage.

The most commonly used method to determine if a person is obese is to look at his/her Body Mass Index (BMI). A person with a BMI over 30 is considered to be obese, and a BMI over 40 is considered to be severely obese. It’s important to remember though that BMI could be misleading in pregnant or lactating women and in muscular individuals.

Overview of Obesity

Obesity is a disease that affects approximately 60 million people in the United States, and women are especially affected. Over one-third of women between the ages of 20 and 74 are obese, the majority of them being African American or Mexican American. With more and more
pre-packaged food and less and less activity, the number of obese people in America has steadily increased since the 1960’s.

But what is obesity?

Many people think obesity means that a person is overweight, but that’s not exactly true. An overweight person has a surplus amount of weight that includes muscle, bone, fat, and water. An obese person has a surplus of body fat. Most health professionals concur that a man is obese if he has over 25 percent body fat, and a woman is obese if she has over 30 percent.

Women physiologically have more body fat than men, so that why there’s a difference in percentage.

5 Super Effective Tips To Kill Depression

Being lonely is a normal part of our everyday lives. We
get sad when we fail in our exams, when we're rejected by
the person we love, or when someone very close to us
passes away. Depression, however, could be more fatal
than just plain loneliness. It could render life-long
consequences that could ruin your health. Here are some superb tips to conquer the melancholy mood and get the most bliss out of your daily activities.

1) Get Enough Light and Sunshine.

Lack of exposure to sunlight is responsible for the
secretion of the hormone melatonin, which could trigger
a dispirited mood and a lethargic condition.

Melatonin is only produced in the dark. It lowers the
body temperature and makes you feel sluggish. If you
are always cooped up in your room (with the curtains
closed), it would be difficult to restrain yourself
from staying in bed.

This is the reason why many people are suffering from
depression much more often in winter than in the other
seasons. It's because the nights are longer.

If you can't afford to get some sunshine, you can
always lighten up your room with brighter lights.
Have lunch outside the office. Take frequent walks
instead of driving your car over short distances.

2) Get Busy. Get Inspired.

You'll be more likely to overcome any feeling of
depression if you are too busy to notice it. Live
a life full of inspired activities.

Do the things you love. If you're a little short
on cash, you could engage in simple stuffs like
taking a leisurely stroll in the park, playing
sports, reading books, or engaging in any activity
that you have passion for and would love to pursue.

Set a goal - a meaningful purpose in life. No
matter how difficult or discouraging life can be,
remain firm and have an unshakable belief that you
are capable of doing anything you desire. With
this kind of positive attitude, you will attain
a cheerful disposition to beat the blues.

3) Take a Break.

I mean it.

Listen to soothing music. Soak in a nice warm
bath. Ask one of your close friends to massage
you. Take a break from your stressful workload
and spend the day just goofing around. In other
words, have fun.

4) Eat Right and Stay Fit.

Avoid foods with lots of sugar, caffeine, or
alcohol. Sugar and caffeine may give you a
brief moment of energy; but they would later
bring about anxiety , tension, and internal
problems. Alcohol is a depressant. Many people
would drink alcohol to "forget their problems."
They're just aggravating their conditions in the
process.

Exercising regularly is a vital depression buster
because it allows your body to produce more
endorphins than usual. Endorphins are sometimes
called "the happy chemicals" because of their
stress-reducing and happiness-inducing properties.

5) Get a Social Life.

No man is an island. Your circle of friends are
there to give you moral support. Spending time
and engaging in worthwhile activities with them
could give you a very satisfying feeling. Nothing
feels better than having group support.

Never underestimate the power of touch. Doesn't
it feel so good when someone pats you on the back
and gives you words of encouragement during your
most challenging times? Hug or embrace someone
today. You'll never know when you have saved
another life.

Get intimate. Establish close ties with your
family and friends. The love and care expressed
by others could tremendously boost your immune
system and fend off illnesses. Best of all, you'lllive a more secured and happy life.

An Easy Way For You To Make Your Work Fun

You'll discover that the practicalities of making work fun are very similar to making anything else fun.

Chances are at least fifty percent, however, that you are working for someone who trivializes fun. You don't need to bash those bosses who find fun too risky to incorporate, but you do need to understand that you may be on your own regarding enjoying the benefits of humor in the workplace. Having fun is an "inside job," requiring the type of self-discipline we Humor Beings are famous for.

Here's a great "hands-on" strategy for making work fun: Smile more often. This is the most basic strategy for fun at work and it is foolproof. If you make it a priority to smile more often at work this week, you will be amazed at the results. Even if you are smiling often, you can always do it more. This week, commit to smiling every time you become aware that you are not.

Start smiling early in your day! You'll have more resilience and tolerance for the trip to work (those other drivers may still be idiots, but you won't take it so personally).

If you start smiling early enough, by the time you get to work, you will already be having a successful day. It is much easier to perpetuate success, than to "kick-start" it from a standstill when you get to your workstation.

I trust I don't have to recount how smiling benefits you by telling you that it boosts morale, peps up your immune system, releases endorphins, stimulates creativity, enhances communication, inspires hope, etc.? And, remember, even if you fake a smile you still get these benefits!

So don't forget that simple, yet powerful, smile during your work day. Keep your focus on smiling no matter what you're called to do.

One thing at work that drags us down is a feeling of insignificance. Consider this: Gene, from a recent cancer support group, theorized that if everybody on the planet smiled simultaneously, we could heal the world. What if, by some miracle, everybody on the planet was smiling at the same time -- except you? Wouldn't you feel terrible holding us all back like that? Take back control of your smile and you'll have more fun at work!

Why Are You Holding That Glass Of Water All Day?

At a talk I was giving recently, an audience member asked me to explain stress. Looking down, I noticed the glass of water the conference host had thoughtfully placed on the lecturn for me. I raised the glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water?"

Various answers rang out.

I acknowledged the responses and said, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.”

"If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem... If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm…If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. "

I continued, "And that's the way it is with our worries and fears."

"If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we become affected by them. And that's called stress."

"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again."

"When we're refreshed, we can carry on. "

"And that is precisely why we were born with the amazing resource of humor. This natural medicine, which exists in abundance in your own personal chemisty, is capable of keeping your perspective off your fears and worries...regardless of your circumstances."

"Use humor to keep putting your glass down; there is no reason for your to hold it longer than a few seconds."

Things That Make Me Scratch My Head

Here are nine things that make me scratch my head and wonder:

  1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is, where is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

  2. People who are willing to get off their rear to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.

  3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Darn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

  4. When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the heck would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they?

  5. When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the floor.

  6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya?

  7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.

  8. When people say "life is short". What the...?? Life is the longest thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

  9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here?
