Fewer migraines with massage therapy

The Facts:
* Almost 50 people took part in a controlled clinical study to see if massage therapy was of any use in preventing migraine.
* Five weeks of massage therapy resulted in a reduction in the number of migraine attacks and improved quality of sleep compared with people who did not have massage therapy.
* Massage also resulted in a general reduction in stress and anxiety and people felt better able to cope.

Shaun’s comment: Massage therapy involves the use of applying pressure, tension, motion or vibration to soft tissues such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. There are thought to be many benefits including reduced stress and pain and even healing of injuries. In this small study, those who received the massage treatment had fewer migraines. Those who have this condition know how debilitating it can be and may want to try massage therapy to reduce the number of attacks.
